As a writer it is important to communicate our ideas effectively. Using standard writing conventions that include spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar help us as we do this.

Characteristics

~ Writer uses accurate spelling of familiar and commonly used words; uses spelling rules to attempt spelling of difficult words.
~ Writer uses correct captialization and end punctuation.
~ Writer makes effective use of internal punctuation (commas, colons, semi-colans, quotation marks, apostrophes)
~ Writer used effective paragraphing when using dialogue
~ Writer uses grammar that is correct and contributes to clarity and style. (subject/verb agreement, verb tenses, effective use of pronouns and pronoun agreements)
~ Writer uses paragraphing effectively.
